MiniMelts ice cream a US based brand enters Tamil nadu market

Franchise News India:  US ice cream brand MiniMelts has launched its product in Tamil Nadu in partnership with Bangalore-based HoneyBee Amusements. The ice cream, which comes in the form of non-sticky marbles, claims to be the world’s coldest ice cream.

HoneyBee, which invested $5 million in May this year during MiniMelts’ foray into the Indian market, is investing about $0.5 million to launch and market the ice cream in Tamil Nadu.

HoneyBee expects to sell about 15 tonnes of ice cream in the next three months in Chennai and across Tamil Nadu. The product will be available in retail stores, MiniMelts kiosks, on pushcarts on the beaches and on pavements. It will also be made available through a ‘MiniMelts cafe’ concept where the ice cream would be sold along with coffee and snacks in the cafe, said Syed Salim, chairman, HoneyBee Amusements. A three-ounce cup of ice cream will be priced at Rs 37, plus taxes.

The 20-year-old ice cream manufacturer, which operates in over 20 countries across the world, made its Indian foray through Karnataka this year. It has stores in Bangalore, Mysore and several other cities in the state and has sold close to 10 tonnes of ice cream so far.

HoneyBee Amusements, owners of Q Cinemas, is the sole franchisee for MiniMelts in India and eight other countries, including Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bangladesh.

HoneyBee has set up a 10,000sqft ice cream manufacturing facility in Bangalore, with a capacity to manufacture 15 tonnes of ice cream a day. The plant will cater to the brand’s outlets across India and operations in neighboring countries like Bangladesh.
