unnamedIndia’s textiles sector is one of the main contributing sectors of the national economy. It is also  one of the largest sectors of India’s exports contributing total 11 percent and it is also one of the largest employers.

The textile industry is vertically-integrated across the value chain and extends from fibre to fabric to garments. At the same time, it is a highly-fragmented sector, and comprises small-scale, non-integrated spinning, weaving, processing and cloth manufacturing enterprises.

There are two segments of textile industry, namely unorganized and organized, handloom, handicrafts, sericulture, power looms in the unorganized and spinning, apparel, garmenting, made ups in the organized sector. Indian textiles industry is extremely varied, with a hand-spun and handwoven sector, and the capital intensive sophisticated mill sector at the other. The decentralized power looms, hosiery and knitting sector form the largest and knitting sector form the largest section of the Textiles Sector.

The close linkage of the Industry to agriculture and the ancient culture, the traditions of the country make the Indian textiles sector unique in comparison to the textiles industry of other countries. This also provides the industry with the capacity to produce a variety of products suitable to the different market segments, both within and outside the country.

Right now the Indian textile industry is on boom and looks promising, by the strong domestic consumption and export demand. The apparel industry is growing fast and increasing the size of income and reflection in GDP.
